PCT Day 49 – Arrival in Tehachapi

Last updated Mar 25, 2020 | Published on Jun 12, 2017

We decided to sleep in today and hit the trail at 7:00 am. I slept soundly thanks to the mattress I borrowed from Captain Underpants and felt well rested. We were camped at the bottom of a canyon, with the trail visible on both sides of the canyon – we hiked in on one side and would be hiking out on the other side. There wasn’t much privacy for digging a cathole, but by this point on the trail I don’t care as much any more.

Good Morning!

It was a short hike today to Willow Spring Road where we planned to hitchhike into Tehachapi. We hiked out of the canyon and over some rolling hills to yet another wind farm. This one was even bigger than the ones we walked through the previous two days. The windmills are so tall!

More Windmills!

The Trail Angel Legend’s mobile home was parked at the trailhead when we arrived at Willow Spring Road. He wasn’t there at the time but had a cooler of sodas. We helped ourselves to some cold sodas and soon hitched into town.

This Beer was Mighty Tasty

Our first priority upon arriving into town was to eat some Town Food. We stopped at a pizza place for some pizza and beer, and then checked into our hotel. I spent pretty much the rest of the day babysitting our laundry – the hotel only had one washer and dryer for guests to use, and there was a line. I only have the one outfit to wear, so I have to wear my rainclothes in meantime. This makes me especially motivated to get our clothes washed as quickly as possible.

It’s nice to be back in town. We have a Zero Day tomorrow as I have a bunch of errands to run so it will be a busy day.
