On a recent roadtrip across the northeastern US, my husband Daniel and I found ourselves driving through Scranton. So of course we had to stop and tour The Office shooting locations that took place there.
I climbed into the passenger seat and pulled out my phone. Daniel and I were on our way to Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City from a campground in Central New York. It was Daniel’s turn to drive which meant I was in charge of navigation.
“Check it out!” I said excitedly. “We’re going through Scranton, Pennsylvania today!”
“No! Really?” Daniel asked. “I thought we were driving across New York.”
“Really!” I enthused. “Our route takes us through the northeast corner of Pennsylvania. We’ll be in Scranton at lunchtime.”
“Well we should see where The Office was filmed!” said Daniel.
“Damn skippy!” I agreed. So I did some last-minute research on The Office shooting locations while Daniel drove south.

Researching the Office Shooting Locations in Scranton
The American version of The Office television show follows the everyday work lives of employees at the Houghton Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. I was sad when series finally ended in 2013 after running for 9 seasons as it was *hysterical*. The sitcom was modeled a British tv series with the same name and the same premise – although the British version had different actors and was set in the Slough branch of the fictional Wernham Hogg paper company.
The first thing I discovered when beginning my research was that most of the show was filmed in Los Angeles, not in Scranton. I guess that shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise since that is the case with most tv shows.
Luckily for us, a few key The Office shooting locations are in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Since we only planned to stop in Scranton during our lunch break, we picked two of the best ones.
Pennsylvania Paper and Supply Company
Our first stop in Scranton was at the Pennsylvania Paper and Supply Company on Vine Street. We wanted to see the office building where Dunder Mifflin was located and the all the magic happened.
Well, unfortunately, such a thing doesn’t actually exist. In The Office TV series, the Dunder Mifflin Scranton office is located at 1725 Slough Avenue – which is not a real address. The address is an inside joke for fans of the British tv series (which is located in the town of Slough).
What does exist in Scranton, however, is the Pennsylvania Paper and Supply Company. Fans flock to the iconic building where, I’m told, the staff have signed photos of themselves posing with the show’s cast.
On this visit, we contented ourselves and with taking photos from the outside since we were in a hurry.

The other stop in our whirlwind Scranton tour was at the mall. Several scenes from The Office were shot here, although in the series it was known as The Steamtown Mall.
The mall’s main draw is the Scranton Welcomes You sign from the show’s opening credits. This is located on the second floor.
The building was almost completely deserted during our visit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of the businesses were shuttered.
Some of the murals on those closed businesses were pretty nice though.

On our way to Scranton, we drove along I-90 in upstate New York. The road follows the same route as the Old Erie Canal. Completed in 1825, the 323-mile canal connected Albany and Buffalo and became the main route between the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes.

I have watched every episode. Deeply disappointed to learn that the series was not filmed there…🤣. Never expected it was. However, I am quite sure at least some of Pam and Jim’s wedding was filmed at Niagara Falls, and it made me cry….every time. 😚
Such a great show! A few scenes were filmed there – some scenes at a few local restaurants and parks. We were too much in hurry to track them down tho.
