A Rainy Autumn Day in the U. P.

Last updated Oct 4, 2020 | Published on Oct 4, 2020

Not every day on the road is filled with sightseeing and crazy shenanigans. We spend a lot of time working on our blogs and planning where to go next, as well as doing boring chores around the RV.

But sometimes we just need a day to chill out and relax. And that’s exactly what we did on Monday.

Appa parked at our campsite in the KOA Campground.

Lazy Rainy Day

After yesterday’s epic day of touring Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, I was feeling tired. And, as predicted in the forecast, it rained all day.

I had zero desire to go sightseeing or to even leave the RV. I just wanted to stay in bed all day and watch movies.

Daniel agreed to this plan but he prefers to sit up when watching television. So we made some adjustments to our dinette/bedroom area. We configured one side as a bench seat and the other side as a bed. That way he could sit up and I could lay down.

Appa is like the world’s most functional transformer. We are constantly folding and unfolding chairs and tables to configure the space to the task at hand. We’d never tried this configuration before, however. I was pleased at how well it worked out.

The dinette converted to half bed and half bench seat. The television stows in the closet while we are driving.

Hot cocoa in bed on a rainy cold day? Yes please!

Winter is Coming

It’s starting to really feel like autumn now in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (U. P.). It’s been downright chilly at nights with temperatures in the low 40s. Luckily it’s not cold enough to worry about our pipes freezing yet.

But it’s been cold enough that we’ve started running our heater at night. The heater runs off our propane tank and warms our tiny home fairly quickly.

It’s downright cozy in here with the heater running and cuddled under blankets and drinking hot cocoa.

I am enjoying the weather now, but we don’t want to be here when it starts snowing. Appa is definitely not a four season vehicle. We will be heading south to warmer weather soon.

The dirt roads at the campground have turned into muddy puddles

Where are we now?

We are at the Munising/Pictured Rocks KOA Campground in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula!
