Walking Under Power Lines

I’ve worked at the Microsoft Millennium campus for the last couple of years. It’s not the most inspiring corporate office to work out of, but it does have one distinct advantage over main campus – it’s located near miles of lovely trails.  My favorite trail is the Redmond Watershed  Preserve located only 3 miles from the office.  It’s a relatively easy path nestled deep in the woods, with a 5 mile loop that is a favorite with trail runners.  I’ve seen deer in the preserve on more than one occasion.

I’ve hiked the trails in the Preserve many times, so this morning I decided to try something new. I parked in the Main parking lot and explored the trails under the Puget Sound Energy powerline on the Preserve’s Southeast boundary.

The trail ran due east, and I was treated to a lovely view of the sun rising as I walked.  The temperature had plummeted overnight to 26 degrees and parts of the trail were laced with frost.  I had the sunrise to myself.

I followed the trail for only about a mile or so before turning around. Today is technically my rest day, as I worked out at the gym yesterday and have another workout planned for tomorrow.  But nothing beats walking outside.

Not a bad way to start the morning before I head off to work.
